The Jasper National Park Icefield Information Centre is a great spot to stretch your legs, grab a coffee, and learn more about the Columbia Icefield. Visitors can learn about glaciers and the park's natural history or even join a guided tour to get a closer look at the nearby Athabasca Glacier. You have two tour options: the huge glacier discovery vehicles or a guided hike with a small group across the glacier's surface. It also serves as a hub for the Skywalk.
If you're lucky enough to secure a reservation, you can stay at the Glacier View Lodge in the centre. It sells out every summer and has amazing views across the way to the glacier. Waking up there and seeing the morning light is a special experience. Please see the separate write-up for the individual experiences.
Other things to note are the following. During the peak season, the parking lot also serves as overflow camping for RVs. If you're driving the Parkway in the winter, the centre closes, so be sure to plan ahead. You'll need to fill up your tank in Lake Louise or Jasper because there are no facilities.
