This is a historic location in the Westfjords that used to be a farm and trading post, with trading activities since around 1884. The current standout feature of Arngerdareyri is Kastalinn ("The Castle"), a stately stone house that resembles a castle that was built in 1929. It used to be the state of the art, boasting luxurious amenities like six bedrooms, running water, and even marble stairs imported from Italy, but has mostly been abandoned since 1966. Beginning in 2012, Kastalinn has been undergoing renovations by new owners but is still a work in progress.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A spot that used to be a farm and a trading post that now has a house that looks like a castle.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: It has been mostly abandoned since 1966 but has seen some renovations since 2012.
