The Hill of the Buddha is a majestic monument located in Makomanai Takino Cemetery in Sapporo, Japan. Designed by renowned Japanese modernist architect Tadao Ando, it features a 13.5 meter tall statue of the Buddha encircled by an artificial hill rotunda with 150,000 lavender plants. Upon entrance to the shrine, one can only see the head sticking out from the hill and must pass through a tunnel for a full view of the beautiful Buddha inside of the open rotunda. The Hill of the Buddha is the perfect place to take a peaceful break from everyday life and enjoy a tranquil moment surrounded by nature!
