Wat Bang Kung is a unique and iconic Buddhist temple tucked away in the roots of banyan trees along the western bank of the Mae Khlong river in Amphawa district. Its serene and spiritual atmosphere are augmented by its age-old structures, statues of warriors in 18th century dress and the large and majestic banyan trees that dominate the landscape. Wat Bang Kung provides visitors with a glimpse into the 18th century battles between Siam and Burma - and even houses a statue of the famous Siamese General Taksin whose army won a decisive victory at the temple. There is also a small zoo with birds and monkeys to observe. This temple is a must-see for anyone who wants to explore Thai culture and history in an unforgettable way.
