Stekenjokk is a mountain plateau along the Wilderness Road, and one of the highlights of the drive. The landscape here is wide open, with endless views over the mountains. In early summer, the snow can still cover large parts of the plateau, making it a unique experience to drive through.

The road is only open during the summer months (usually June–October), and the area is well known for its birdlife and fragile mountain environment. There are parking spots where you can stop, take in the view, and go for a short walk out onto the plateau. If you’re looking for longer hikes, there are also trails leading further into the mountains.

It’s a place that really gives you that “high mountain” feeling without a long hike, and it’s one of those spots where the road itself is part of the adventure.
