Carved directly into a rocky cliff high above the Sassi, this little church is a true Matera experience. You'll need to climb a short but steep set of stairs to reach it, but the panoramic views of the ancient city and the Gravina canyon from the top are absolutely worth the effort. Inside, you'll find a space that feels both ancient and intimate, with remarkable frescoes that have survived for centuries. It’s connected by a narrow passage to an even older crypt, making it a fascinating glimpse into the city's layered history. There is a small admission fee to enter.
