One of the most scenic trails in the western Superstition Mountains, Boulder Canyon climbs immediately from Canyon Lake before leveling into rolling desert hills with nonstop views of Weaver’s Needle, Battleship Mountain, and the rugged volcanic landscape of the Supes. The first mile is the steepest as it gains a ridgeline overlooking the lake; after that, the trail undulates through classic Sonoran Desert terrain.
Most hikers turn around at the high saddle for the iconic viewpoint of Weaver’s Needle, but the trail continues deep into Boulder Canyon for those wanting a longer, more remote outing.
➡️ Expect steep early climbing, rocky tread, narrow sections, and big desert views.
➡️ Very exposed — no shade at all. Bring more water than usual, especially in warm months.
