Ruins of a fort

Fort Bowie is a small, remote historic site where you park and walk roughly a mile each way on a rocky, exposed trail to reach the ruined fort and Apache Spring, so wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water and sun protection, and be prepared for loose footing. The visitor center has basic exhibits and seasonal hours but few services beyond that, and cell phone reception is spotty, so download directions and check the National Park Service page before you go. Plan on 1 to 2 hours to explore the ruins and interpretive panels, arrive early to avoid midday heat, and expect a quiet, mostly self-guided experience rather than a full-service park.
