Considered one of the most scenic and rewarding trails in Saguaro National Park, the Hugh Norris Trail climbs a dramatic ridgeline with endless views over the Tucson Mountains. Long stone staircases lead up to the main ridge, where the route becomes a rolling, panoramic traverse through dense saguaro forest. Most hikers use this trail to reach Wasson Peak, the highest point in the Tucson Mountain District.
➡️ Expect a long, steady climb with rock steps, ridgeline exposure, and nonstop desert views. Though not technical, the mileage and sun exposure make it a strenuous hike — bring plenty of water.
➡️ The saguaro density is exceptional, with giant multi-armed cacti lining the ridge. Sunrise or sunset lighting is especially stunning from this trail.
➡️ Best Season: October–April. Summer temperatures routinely exceed 100–110°F and are dangerous without experience and preparation.
