While exploring Cape Reinga, if you’re in the mood to get a few more steps in after checking out the lighthouse, I highly recommend doing a section of the Te Araroa Trail from Cape Reinga to Te Werahi Beach. The trail starts just about 100 meters along the path to the lighthouse, and you’ll see signs for hikes to Twilight Beach on your left.

Honestly, you can keep going as far as you want on this track, but I kept it short and sweet and walked down to Te Werahi Beach, which is about 2.5 kilometres one way. It’s a great way to escape the crowds around the lighthouse and take in the breathtaking coastal cliffs and stunning views of the two seas meeting.

I absolutely loved this walk, it’s peaceful and scenic, and you get to enjoy some serious nature vibes. I even spotted a ton of marine life in the water along the way, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled! It’s definitely a perfect way to extend your time at Cape Reinga and really soak in the beauty of this incredible spot.
