This trail is super family-friendly and a must-do when exploring the area. It’s a short 3.1 km return trail that takes you along impressive rock faces and through amazing caves filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The track is easy to follow and perfect for a quick nature fix, simply follow the path right from the car park. Some of the cave paths go pretty deep into the darkness, making them fun to explore. Plus, the views of the rugged coastline are totally Instagram-worthy.
The trail only takes about 45 minutes to complete, so grab your hiking boots and get ready to explore some awesome caves!
As I mentioned in my description of Whatipu Beach, the drive to the car park is a bit uncomfortable. It’s about 6.5 km (roughly 20 minutes) along a narrow, winding gravel road, so take it slow and be ready for oncoming traffic.
