The Mirador del Embalse de Guadalest is one of those spots you hear about from locals, quiet enough to feel off the beaten track, but close enough that you can make it part of any day in the Guadalest valley. If you drive up toward the reservoir dam, pull off near Benimantell or the castle, there are paths and viewpoints that open up onto views of that emerald lake surrounded by steep hills and rocky peaks. From up there, the water’s colour catches your eye first. Deep greens and blues depending on light and weather. Around you the mountain ridges of the Sierra de Aitana, Serrella and Xortá flank the reservoir. The landscape changes with every turn: citrus and almond groves, pine trees, scrubby slopes and little white houses dotted here and there.
There’s a circular walking route (~10-12 km) that loops around the reservoir. It’s not hard, though there are some ups and downs. Great for a lazy morning walk or an afternoon when the sun is softer. Bring water, good shoes and maybe a camera. Every angle is nice. If you go early (morning mist) or late afternoon (golden light), the atmosphere is calm. You’ll often have stretches with no one around. Perfect if you want nature, peace and views without the crowds.
