Girdwood is one of our favorite more local spots just south of Anchorage about 40 minutes. Winner Creek Trail is this cool hiking path located in Girdwood, known for its stunning scenery and accessibility. This trail offers hikers a chance to immerse themselves in lush forests, vibrant wildflowers, and the soothing sounds of nearby streams. The trail is relatively easy, making it suitable for families and casual walkers, while still providing some amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way, adventurers might spot wildlife or take a break at one of the scenic viewpoints. There’s a unique hand tram a couple miles into the journey, but it's unfortunately closed. Still though, the vantage point of the creek and canyon is worth the hike! Overall, Winner Creek Trail is an awesome escape into Alaska's natural beauty.

NOTE: even in the winter this trail can be accessed! There generally is a good amount of local hikers that end up making a winter path. Surrounding the Winner Creek trail area is also a cross-country ski area.
