Ohara - small and quite village in the Northern part of Kyoto prefecture, surrounded by mountains, forests, and rivers. I love this area for its natural beauty and traditional Japanese architecture, but the main reason to visit this place is that the village is home to several historic temples and shrines that are unique to all of Japan.
Recommended arrival time at the first location: 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Quick summary of the day:
🔹 walk around a beautiful area (surrounded by traditional farms and forests and mountains) that connects over a 1000-year old Temples that you will visit as well
🔹 couple of really good options for lunch (both offer a variety of traditional Japanese cuisine)
🔹 I always strive to recommend at least one local shop where you could buy something memorable from the area, but this time I could not find anything worthwhile. The only unique items for sale in the area are pickled vegetables and other products used for cooking that are produced on the local farms, but it is definitely not for everyone's taste. Let me know if I've missed something really cool.
*There are no convenience stores in the area
