Located just behind the famous Yawataya Isogoro - a historic spice shop founded in 1736 and known across Japan for its signature shichimi togarashi (seven-spice chili blend)—Yokomachi Café offers a fun experience.

The cafe serves a variety of comforting curries, desserts, and drinks, with the full lineup of Yawataya’s spices available on every table for you to experiment with. The curry was delicious and satisfying, but what really stood out was the DIY miso soup, where you brew your own from a selection of miso pastes—surprisingly great with curry. And don’t miss the gelato, which you can also try with different spices for a weird, quirky, and genuinely fun twist.

The interior is cozy and stylish, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout my visit.
