A small island connected to the mainland by a long red bridge. Once across, you’ll find a network of walking trails that wind through pine forests, along the shoreline, and past several viewpoints overlooking Matsushima Bay. It’s a great place to stretch your legs and enjoy a quieter side of Matsushima away from the busiest tourist areas.

The island is larger than it first appears, so I’d recommend allowing 1–2 hours to explore, depending on your pace and how often you stop at the viewpoints. The views aren’t dramatic at every turn, but the combination of forest paths, coastal scenery, and relative lack of crowds makes it one of the most pleasant walks in the area.

*To enter the island, you’ll need to pass through a small cafe (google maps link) and purchase an admission ticket from the machine.
