Taumarunui is a small town in the King County of Central North Island New Zealand on the upper reaches of the Whanganui River. After finishing the Timber Trail it is a great place to stop and resupply as well as make bookings for the upcoming journey on the TA along the Whanganui River.

It is possible to resupply here at either Four Square or New World and camp at the ‘Taumarunui Canoe Hire and Jet Boat Tours’ property (if booking with them).

Tip: This is your best opportunity to resupply not only for the upcoming section but also for the Whanganui River section. Grab non perishable groceries and store them with your canoe hire company before leaving town.
