Miradouro Quinta do Furão (Santana)
Clifftop terrace with sweeping views of Madeira’s wild north coast
Quinta do Furão is more than just a hotel — it’s home to one of Madeira’s most famous viewpoints. Perched on a sheer cliff above the Atlantic, this miradouro looks out over the island’s dramatic north coast: terraced vineyards cascading toward the ocean, towering basalt cliffs stretching into the distance, and on clear days, the eastern tip of Madeira glowing in the sun.
Even better, this viewpoint is open to the public — you don’t need to stay at the hotel to enjoy it
Insider tips
Best time: late afternoon — have dinner or a glass of wine as the sun sets over the cliffs.
Try the house espetada or the black scabbardfish with banana — two Madeiran classics.
Even if you’re not hungry, grab a coffee or poncha — the terrace of the Pizza Place and Restaurant there alone is worth it.
Great spot for photographers — especially in spring when the vineyards are bright green.
How to get there
Just outside Santana village, a short drive north toward the cliffs.
