Ponte do Pisão (FUNCHAL)
Hidden waterfall bridge near Funchal with easy access
Ponte do Pisão is one of Madeira’s easiest “secret” nature spots: just 15 minutes from central Funchal Downtown by car and a short 1 km walk. Suddenly you’re standing on an old stone bridge surrounded by lush greenery, with waterfalls cascading below.
I bring guests here when they want a quick taste of wild Madeira without committing to a full hike — it’s quiet, photogenic, and perfect for a short stop on the way to Curral das Freiras.
Insider tip
Great for families or anyone short on time — minimal walking, maximum reward.
After rain, the waterfalls here are at their strongest.
For those who want more context
The bridge sits on an old levada system used to irrigate farmlands in the valley. Though it’s easy to reach, it remains surprisingly under-visited compared to major viewpoints nearby.
Important: The map pin shows the location of the bridge itself, but you’ll need to park a little earlier and walk the last part (around 1 km on a forest path).
Bring a camera, some calm, and enjoy the silence.
