Viewpoint Bica da Cana (Paul da Serra Plateau)

360° mountain views and rolling cloud seas

Bica da Cana is one of Madeira’s highest viewpoints on the Paul da Serra plateau. On clear days you see all the way to the ocean; on cloudy days you’re standing above a sea of clouds – one of the island’s most magical sights.

I love coming here at sunrise when the light hits the ridges of Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro in the distance.

Insider tip

  • Combine with nearby hikes like PR17 or hidden trails across Paul da Serra.

For those who want more context
Paul da Serra is Madeira’s largest plateau, known for its wind turbines, pastures, and as the gateway to Rabacal’s waterfall hikes. Bica da Cana is its ultimate viewpoint – often used by photographers chasing cloud inversions.
