Often considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Bavarian Alps, the Eibsee lies directly beneath Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. A scenic and easy circular trail (approx. 7.5 km, 2 hours) leads around the lake, offering breathtaking views of turquoise waters, forested shores, and rugged mountain peaks.
There is a boat and SUP rental near the lake, as well as a lakeside restaurant and public restrooms next to the Eibsee Hotel.
A large parking lot is available, but it often fills up by 9:00 am on weekends—arriving early is highly recommended. Parking costs €2.50 between 5:00 and 9:30 am, then €8 for four hours (plus €1 for each additional hour). Alternatively, the lake is easily accessible by bus or the Zugspitzbahn from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Early mornings offer a peaceful experience and soft light for photography, while the lake becomes quite busy during the day, especially in summer.
