Betty Corrigall's Grave on Hoy Island in Orkney is known as one of the loneliest graves in the UK, yet it's also one of the most visited. Poor Betty faced a tragic fate after falling for a passing sailor, leading to her taking her own life due to societal pressures. Buried in unhallowed ground beyond the parish borders, her grave has been disturbed multiple times. Finally, in 1976, a headstone was erected by a visiting American, Reverend Kenwood, marking her resting place with a simple white marker that tells her story.
