Heart Lake is a beautiful, 3.0-mile hike located just above Castle Lake in Northern California, making it easily accesible for everyone. It offers unbelievable views of Mount Shasta, Black Butte and Castle Lake. Heart Lake itself is more of a pond than a lake, but it's worth it for its surrounding nature: wildflowers in June and July, and the crystal-clear water of Castle Lake perfect for swimming or stand-up paddle boarding. Along this trail, adventurers can access the Pacific Crest Trail and explore the ridge above Heart Lake for amazing views of the area. Furthermore, this hike is pet friendly and the surrounding area is rich in activities. Make sure you bring enough water and take in all the sights and sounds!
For those feeling even more adventurous, you can backpack up to this spot, and there are a limited number of primitive camping spots. Check out the U.S. Forest Service site for more info!
