It is the world’s largest Mazu temple, occupying forty hectares of land and featuring a towering and majestic appearance comparable to that of ancient Chinese palaces.

Orthodox Luermen Shengmu Temple claims to be the rightful successor of Luermen's destroyed Matsu Temple. The temple asserts that it was originally called Baoan Temple and worshipped Wangye as its main deity, with Matsu as a secondary deity. It changed its name to Shengmu Temple in 1960. The temple's history is intertwined with a dispute over the legitimacy of its claim to the original Matsu shrine in Luermen, leading to ongoing conflicts with another local temple.
