The gardens at The Tawny are some of the most interesting and unique we've ever come across in the UK. Designed by engineer William Podmore who lived here in the '50's, the series of lakes, abundance of wildlife and flora from around the world along with Folly's taken from old country manors from around the UK make this place a joy to explore. The rooms themselves are scattered around the estate and consist of a variety of luxury cabins and boathouses. Ours, called 'Poppy' had a massive comfy bed, beautiful woodland views, along with a large circular outdoor bath on the balcony making for a very relaxing afternoon having a long soak and listening to the birdsong.
The clubhouse has a restaurant where you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly. Whilst we would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for a getaway for a spacial occasion, the one thing we would note is that the restaurant/ bar area could be better in terms of a relaxing place to hang out. We would have loved a scenic spot for a pre dinner cocktail (if we're being picky!). The decor also doesn't quite feel in keeping with the natural beauty of the site, but perhaps that's just personal taste.
It's also worth mentioning you're only about 35 minutes from beautiful spots in the Peaks like Three Shires Head which are definitely worth a visit if you can pull yourself away from your outdoor bath and the beautiful gardens.
