If you’re looking to experience a slightly different side to Cornwall then this might be the adventure for you. This hike takes you on a 6.2km loop through the fairly extraordinary St Nectans Glen, along the Rocky Valley and out onto the coast at Bossiney Haven.

The first thing that hits you as you enter the green of the glen is just how alive this place feels, you’re immediately immersed in a hidden world of English ferns and fauna.

The woodland path traces the Trevillet river along the floor of the glen winding across small wooden bridges from bank to bank. The sound of the water combined with the occasional bursts of sunshine breaking through the canopy make this stretch of the hike quite special.

After about 45 minutes the path leads to the famous Kieve waterfall, a beautiful 60 ft waterfall nestled into the surrounding slate rocks.

Now it’s important to state here that there is an admission fee for the waterfall (£15pp ) which feels pretty weird (although understand the reasons)… we got there early in the morning and so had the waterfall pretty much to ourselves which made it worth it… sort of… maybe. But the whole experience felt slightly weird if we’re honest.

Anyway, if you’re on a tight budget or don’t fancy the sound of it then you can just walk round the waterfall and out toward the small village of St Nectans.

The loop then takes you back through the Glen before leading you along the Rocky Valley, which does exactly what it says on the tin… a large valley, framed by dramatic rocky slopes. The valley offers the perfect teaser to the epic Cornish Coast which appears before too long, signalling that you have finished the loop and are at the beautiful Bossiney Haven.

This was a great, very easy to achieve adventure and has a real variety… which, if you’re like us, is crucial to keeping you engaged!
