Travel Inspirations by 500 Miles Away

Stuðlagil Canyon, is a spectacular canyon featuring perfectly symmetrical basalt columns and vibrant turquoise water. Access requires a bit of effort: we parked on the east side and followed a 2.5 km trail to reach the canyon edge. The path is well-marked but rocky in some areas, so sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.

Once we arrived, the scale and symmetry of the basalt walls left us speechless. The river below shimmered in shades of green and blue, and the canyon felt like a natural cathedral carved over millennia. We spent plenty of time walking along the edge, photographing the formations, and simply soaking in the geological wonder. It’s a less-visited spot, which made the experience feel intimate and special.
