The Blue Lagoon is Iceland’s most famous geothermal spa — a world-renowned destination where milky-blue waters meet black lava fields, creating one of the country’s most surreal and relaxing experiences. Located about 45 minutes from Reykjavík and 20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport, it’s an ideal first or last stop on your Icelandic adventure.

Formed from naturally heated seawater rich in silica, algae, and minerals, the lagoon is known for its rejuvenating and skin-nourishing properties. The warm water (around 38–40°C) is both soothing and otherworldly, especially when surrounded by mist rising from the surface against the rugged lava landscape.

Visitors can enjoy a silica mud mask, sip drinks from the swim-up bar, and explore hidden corners of the lagoon where the water’s color and temperature shift subtly. The atmosphere is peaceful, luxurious, and deeply Icelandic — a fusion of natural wonder and modern design.

For those seeking an enhanced experience, the Retreat Spa offers exclusive access to private lagoons, in-water massages, and a high-end dining experience at Moss Restaurant, which overlooks the volcanic terrain.

Entry Fees (as of 2025):

  • Comfort Package: from 9,990 ISK – includes lagoon entry, silica mask, towel, and 1 drink.

  • Premium Package: from 13,490 ISK – adds bathrobe, slippers, and a reservation at Lava Restaurant.

  • Retreat Spa: from 69,000 ISK+ – includes private lagoon access, spa rituals, and premium amenities.

Tips for Visiting:

  • Book in advance — spots often fill up weeks ahead, especially in summer.

  • Bring your swimsuit, but towels and masks are provided.

  • Visit early morning or late evening to avoid crowds and catch the best light for photos.

  • The lagoon is open year-round, and the contrast between warm water and cold air makes it magical in winter. There are often closings of the lagoon due to volcanic eruptions near by.
