The Lindis Pass is one of the most beautiful drives you will do in New Zealand. The road climbs up through a high mountain pass, winding between rolling hills covered in golden tussock. I have driven through the pass countless times and it looks different every time I do.

As you reach the higher sections, there’s a car park and a viewpoint right at the top where you get a view across the whole area and it's seriously amazing! If there is cloud you won't see much but most of the time it's worth stopping.

Also it snows here at times during winter, so not only does the landscape turn even more beautiful (if that's even possible) but the lookout is the perfect place to have a play in the snow! Sometimes the Lindis Psss is closed if it gets too icy or unsafe to drive on, so it’s one of those drives where you need to plan a bit ahead and have a backup option just in case. I recommend checking the NZTA Journeys website where you can put in your route to make sure the Lindis Pass is open before you try and go through. They do grit the roads but every now and then it's just too dangerous. I recommend carrying snow chains with you just in case.
