Directions

The Leutnantschanze (Lieutenant's Redoubt) is an old military fortification.

Built in 1631, during the Thirty Years' War, the structure was expanded in 1632, forming a crescent shape with underground casemates to house soldiers.

After the sale of the fortifications to the citizens in 1803, the area was transformed into a public garden, with the planting of fruit trees.

Currently, the Leutnantschanze is part of Rain's Stadtpark, serving as a place for leisure and rest for residents and visitors.

One of the most notable events held at the Leutnantschanze is the Rainer Sommerkino, an open-air film festival that takes place annually. Every year the event occurs in mid-August, offering a diverse program of films for the public.
