Although Dinkelsbühl does not have a single traditional central square, what is now called Marktplatz, or Altrathausplatz, was historically a central fork of the commercial streets, such as the cattle market and the Ledermarkt (leather market).

The group of historic buildings around it includes the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall), now transformed into the Haus der Geschichte Dinkelsbühl, a municipal museum about local history.
