The Zeughaus (Arsenal) is the oldest surviving building on the Unter den Linden boulevard and, arguably, the most pleasing to the eye.
It was built in 1695. It boasts a magnificent structure, with its wings arranged around a beautiful inner courtyard.
Since 1991, the site has housed the wonderful German Historical Museum, which is dedicated to Germany's history and defines itself as a place for gaining insight into and understanding the shared history of Germans and Europeans.
It is widely regarded as one of Berlin's most important and most visited museums.
Founded on October 28, 1987, the museum houses permanent exhibitions on German history—featuring images and artifacts—across an area of 8,000 square meters.
It displays over 10,000 historical items illustrating two thousand years of German history—a turbulent and compelling story set within a European context.
The museum is fascinating and well worth a visit.
