The Berlin Wall divided the western part from the eastern part and lasted 28 years. Today, the wall is hardly visible in the Berlin cityscape. It was over 155km long, with 302 observation towers, 20 bunkers, and several border posts completing the complex.
Several pieces of the wall are scattered in museums around the world.
To see the remains of the Berlin Wall, the best place is the Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer, which also houses a memorial, at the East Side Gallery [see attraction 27], at the Topographie des Terrors [see attraction 35], or on Liesenstraße street in Mitte.
Important Tip: the memorial is a large outdoor area. For a complete experience, it is recommended to dedicate at least 1h30 to 2h to walking along Bernauer Straße and climbing the Documentation Center tower.
