It is the building of the German Parliament (Bundestag) and one of the most visited attractions in Berlin. The glass dome is an attraction for locals and tourists alike.
The building was constructed between 1884 and 1894. Its impressive dome was made of steel and glass, a new technique used for the first time at the time.
With the end of the First World War, the Republic was proclaimed from the balcony of the Reichstag on November 9, 1918.
Between 1919 and 1933, the Reichstag was the seat of the parliament of the Weimar Republic.
In 1933, a fire broke out in the Reichstag's chambers, and the Nazis blamed the communists for the attack, which began the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler.
After World War II, the building was only rebuilt between 1957 and 1972.
With reunification in 1990, the Reichstag was the first meeting place for the newly elected Bundestag (National Congress).
