KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westes) is the most famous department store in Germany and the largest in continental Europe. It's a shopper's paradise, a favorite of tourists and Berliners alike.
With 60,000 square meters, the equivalent of nine football fields, 380,000 items, and 40,000 visitors a day, this legendary store is considered the largest department store on the European continent.
KaDeWe survived the turmoil of 20th-century history unscathed, maintaining its aura.
Founded in 1907 by Jews, it has gone through historical moments. From World Wars I and II and Nazi control, it went through the Cold War and the "economic miracle" in 1950 and, finally, German reunification in 1989.
After facing insolvency proceedings in 2024, full control of the operation was taken over by the Thai group Central Group. The store continues to operate normally as a vibrant luxury destination.
Opening
It is generally open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.
It is normally closed on Sundays, except on special dates such as Open Sunday (e.g., January 25, 2026).
The food court is often open later (midnight on some days), with direct elevator access.
