The Berlin Friedrichsfelde Animal Park (Tierpark Berlin Friedrichsfelde) is the city's second and largest zoo, and is considered the largest landscaped zoo in Europe. Spanning approximately 160 hectares, it houses around 8,700 animals of 120 different species.
Highlights and distinguishing features:
- Ample space: Compared to the more centrally located Berlin Zoo (Zoologischer Garten), the Tierpark offers much more spacious enclosures and expansive park landscapes, ideal for long walks.
- Friedrichsfelde Castle: An 18th-century Baroque castle is located in the center of the park, offering a unique setting. It houses museum collections and is used for events.
- Variety of species: The park is known for its diversity, including rare and endangered species. Highlights include the Alfred Brehm House (a large tropical pavilion for felines and birds), the Giraffe House, and several monkey houses.
Conservation: Tierpark actively participates in global species conservation efforts.
