The Milchlingsbrunnen is a historic fountain located in the heart of Bad Mergentheim's historic center, in the city's main square.
This fountain is adorned with a knight statue representing Wolfgang Schutzbar, known as Milchling, who was the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights from 1543 to 1566. Under his leadership, important public works were carried out, including the construction of the city's first water supply system in 1546 and the building of the Renaissance Rathaus (town hall) in 1564.
The knight statue, erected on an octagonal pedestal, depicts Wolfgang Schutzbar in full armor, holding a shield with his coat of arms. The coat of arms features a crossing of black and gold stripes, symbolizing his lineage and position within the Teutonic Order. The sculpture was installed on the site to honor his contributions to the city and the order.
