Located a few steps from the Brandenburg Gate and the Parliament (Reichstag), this was the first to be completed, back in 1945.

The memorial is flanked by two T-34 tanks and two Soviet cannons that were used in the Battle of Berlin.

Historical curiosity: during the Cold War, this memorial was located in the British sector (West Berlin), but was guarded by Russian sentries, being a small Soviet enclave in western territory.
