This 70-meter-high tower was built in the 10th century as a watchtower for the city's defenses.

It was also used as the bell tower for the neighboring St. Peter's Church.

Its current appearance is the result of renovations carried out between 1612 and 1618.

One of the legends for the origin of the name says that it comes from the Old German words per (bear) and lach (feast). In the past, the arcades below the tower were closed only with railings, behind which the "dancing bears" performed during the festivities.

Currently, the Perlachturm is closed for renovations and is not accessible to the public. The works began in August 2024 and are expected to last until September 2027.

The surrounding area remains accessible, allowing visitors to enjoy the exterior view and the historical surroundings of the square.
