The sprawling Renaissance-style complex of buildings at the University of Würzburg was built in 1582. You can wander through impressive courtyards and classic buildings, soaking in the atmosphere where Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered X-rays.

The south wing, which houses the impressive church, began construction in 1583 and today serves as the University's auditorium. The church was one of the most important of the German Renaissance. In 1696, a carillon (a musical instrument which uses bells from different sizes) was installed there.
