The New Gate Tower of Hundheim was probably built in the second half of the 15th century, after the castle was incorporated into the city.

The dominant structure of the gate is rectangular and has four stories. The top story is built in half-timbered style and has a small, attractive bay window on the northeast side. The roof is made of slate and complements the building beautifully.

The gate also has a round arch on the city side and a pointed arch on the outer side.

The arrow slits in the stone facade of the wall still tell the story of the city today. Arrow slits are narrow openings in walls, towers, or gates of medieval fortifications, used for defense. They allowed archers or crossbowmen to fire at enemies from the outside without exposing themselves too much.

Immediately to the southeast is the Old Hundheim Gate Tower, which has the same floor plan as its neighbor, but is slightly smaller than the newer building. The layered masonry is interspersed with half-timbered beams on the city side, and the hipped roof is covered with plain tiles.

Together, the two towers form a rare and imposing twin ensemble in the southwest corner of Röttingen, which is definitely worth a visit.

In the summer, the towers are sometimes occupied by festival participants.
