The small town has 11,000 inhabitants and already had municipal rights in the 13th century. It was the second ducal residence of Bavaria and an important administrative center.

You'll feel like you've stepped back in time as you wander through the old town, which is almost completely encircled by its original medieval wall. Don't miss a walk along the top of the wall for fantastic views of the colorful houses and the river valley below. The heart of the town, Marienplatz, is perfect for grabbing a coffee and soaking in the historic atmosphere of the 15th-century Ballenhaus.
