It is located near Dom Killian. This basilica was built in the 11th century over the tomb of St. Killian and his companions, who died here as missionaries in 689.
The beautiful and imposing Baroque façade is impressive and was made of red sandstone in the 18th century. Its interior is rich and houses many works of art. The choir and tower are from the 13th century, and the enormous dome and Baroque façade are from the 16th century.
The air raid on Würzburg on March 16, 1945, destroyed this basilica. Inside, after the fire ceased, some intact works of art from the Middle Ages and the Baroque period were miraculously found.
Also visit the Lusamgärtlein (Small Garden) which houses the remains of a Romanesque cloister and the tomb of the minstrel Walther von der Vogelweide. Fresh flowers are always found on his tombstone as a legend says that those who place a bouquet of flowers on the gravestone will ease the pain of a broken relationship or find new love, and those who have recently fallen in love will receive lasting love.
