The Pfarrkirche Mariä Geburt (Parish Church of the Nativity of Mary) and the Kloster Rottenbuch (Monastery) are located in the same place and are one of the great treasures of Germany's Romantic Road; a striking example of how art and spirituality meet in Bavaria.

Founded in 1073 by Duke Welf IV, who also supported Weingarten Abbey, the Monastery belonged to the Augustiner-Chorherren (Canons Regular of St. Augustine), who made Rottenbuch an important spiritual and cultural center in the Middle Ages.

The monastery was dissolved during the Bavarian secularization of 1803, but the church remained as a parish.

The church's facade is relatively simple, in late Romanesque style, which contrasts sharply with the interior, a perfect example of 18th-century Bavarian Rococo.

White and gold stucco covers the vaults, with floral motifs and dancing angels.

Colorful frescoes depict the life of the Virgin Mary and biblical scenes.

The effect is luminous, light, and festive—so much so that Rottenbuch is called the "Jewel of Rococo" in Pfaffenwinkel.

The Pfarrkirche Mariä Geburt is considered one of the most beautiful and well-preserved churches in all of Bavaria.
