The first fountain built on this site dates back to 1480.

Over the years, the fountain has taken on different forms.

The current fountain, the Kriegerbrunnen (Warriors' Fountain), was built in 1871 and honors the soldiers who fought in the Franco-Prussian War between 1870 and 1871.
