Take a walk along the top of the walls, built in the 14th century with stones from the old castle, which had collapsed due to an earthquake.

You will see several plaques with the names of people from all over the world who donated money to rebuild the city after the World War II bombings on March 31, 1945, just five weeks before the armistice.

Several American pilots responsible for the bombing, and their families, are among the donors.

Between Rödertor and Plönlein lies the most visited section; heading from Spitalbastei towards Plönlein is a very beautiful stretch.
