A quick and efficient way to get from Snaefellsnes Peninsula to the Westfjords is to take a ferry. You may bring your rental vehicle on board the ferry but you will need to know the dimensions of your vehicle to book a ticket.

In the summer months, you may choose to stay for the day or spend a night at Flatey Island - this will need to be arranged with the ferry company as you will not be allowed to drive your vehicle on Flatey, the ferry company will take your vehicle to Brjanslaekur and it will wait for you there. Most things are closed on Flatey outside of summer so I do not recommend spending time there from September - May.

The ferry runs year round but the schedule in winter offers far fewer departure times.

The ferry trip from Stykkisholmur to Brjanslaekur is about 2.5 hours long.
