Landmannalaguar is the main place of the highlands. This is also where you start/end the famous Laugarvegur trail. From Landmannalaugar there's plenty of shorter hikes to do and here's also a campsite and a hot spring. The most famous hike is to the "rainbow" mountains.

IMPORTANT

1. You have to reserve campsite in advance if you want to stay here or park for the day. It will get full and you wont be allowed in if you don't have a reservation. Reservation are made through parka on this site: https://parka.is/parking/landmannalaugar/
   

2. There's a river crossing to drive all the way in to the campsite. You need a big 4x4 to pass this one and remember to always drive slow. Dusters or similar smaller 4x4s can make it but it's very common that this size of car drowns in the river. If you drown your car in a river, the insurance is not valid and you might be liable for the full cost of the car.
