The Basilica di San Nicola in Bari, Italy is a beautiful and historic place of worship that has been standing for hundreds of years. Dating back to 1197, this Roman Catholic Church has become an important pilgrimage destination for both Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians alike. The exterior of the church possesses a rather square appearance that looks more like a castle than a church. Inside, pilgrims can marvel at the granit columns and pilasters, as well as exquisite mosaic pavements. Beyond its stunning architecture, many cherish the Basilica for being the home of some of the relics of Saint Nicholas, whose burial site was moved here from Turkey in 1087. Every year, on May 9th and December 6th, religious followers come to celebrate the feast days of Saint Nicholas with great solemnity. Whether you are enthralled by the history, seeking spiritual guidance, or just looking to explore a unique piece of antiquity, a visit to the Basilica will leave you with a memorable experience.
