One of the most unique experiences we did in Iceland was whale watching in Akuyreri. The most popular place for whale watching is probably Husavik, but we heard that you have a better chance of seeing whales in Akuyreri. The explanation for this is that Akuyreri is located in a fjord where whales can find more nutrients than in the open sea. We cannot guarantee that this will always be the case. We were very lucky and we’ve seen them a lot, even our guide was enthusiastic about how many times we saw the whales.
